Trail Camera Not Capturing Animals? Here’s How to Adjust It

If your trail camera captures few or no animals, the problem is often related to the installation position, camera angle, or PIR settings, rather than the camera itself.

1. Choose the right location
Look for animal tracks, droppings, or frequently used trails. Place the camera near game trails, water sources, or feeding areas. Clear branches and dense vegetation in front of the lens to reduce obstruction and false triggers.

2. Adjust the height and angle
Mount the camera about 0.5–1.2 m above the ground, depending on the target animal. Slightly tilt the lens downward and test the viewing area before leaving.

3. Fine-tune PIR settings
If there are too many false triggers, reduce PIR sensitivity and check for moving vegetation. If animals are being missed, increase the sensitivity or detection range appropriately.

4. Check and readjust
Review the captured images after installation. If animals appear at the edge of the frame, adjust the camera angle. If there are many empty shots, check the PIR settings and surrounding vegetation.
